ACKNOWLEDGING SUSTAINABILITY

Committed To Responsible Mining Practices For A Better Tomorrow!

Since 1992-93, MEMC Council Has Succeeded In Sensitizing The Needs Of The Responsible And Sustainable Mining Practices To Benefit Stakeholders.

MEMC Week, or Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation week, is an annual event organized by MEMC Council under the aegis of the Indian Bureau of Mines in Gujarat from 1992-93. The objective of the event is to promote awareness and encourage responsible mining practices among mine owners, operators, and professionals. The event aims to create a platform for sharing knowledge and best practices related to environmental & mineral conservation, reclamation & rehabilitation of the mined-out area, waste management, sustainable development, and other relevant issues in the mining industry. The event culminates with the Final Day Function and prize distribution ceremony where all the mine owners and stakeholders are invited to recognize their efforts towards responsible mining. At the Final Day Function, the chief guest from the Indian Bureau of Mines addresses the gathering and inspects the various stalls showcasing best practices & innovative initiativesIt is a great opportunity for mining companies to showcase their sustainability initiatives and contribute to the growth of the mining industry.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Raising The Bar

The Ultimate Measure of Mining Excellence

The Comprehensive Evaluation Criteria Set The Standard For Responsible Mining!

The participating mines in MEMC Week are evaluated based on various criteria to assess their environmental and sustainable practices. These criteria include factors such as the number of plants planted, survival rate of those plants, species of plants, and top soil management. Additionally, other aspects such as dump slopes, drainage channels, geotechnical/slope stability studies, utilization of mine planning software, utilization of mineral rejects, area reclaimed and rehabilitated, plant/process audit, ambient air and groundwater quality, community development, effort for zero waste mining, skill development and vocational training, and organizing Swachhta Pakhwada at mine level are also assessed. These evaluation criteria ensure that the mines are taking necessary steps to minimize their environmental impact while focusing on sustainable practices.

Score Big by Making a Sustainable Impact - 45% of Total Marks focused on 3 main criteria!

The criteria include total planted plants, topsoil management, the species of plants used for afforestation, the number of plants per hectare, etc.

This Criteria includes efforts towards Zero Waste Mining, Community Development, Innovation in energy saving, etc. to reflect the efforts for sustainable future while promoting economic growth & Social Development.

Mineral rejects threshold, utilization of mineral rejects, recovery from tailing & old dumps, etc. are included in the Mineral Conservation criteria.
